Potential Investor?
We can double the power of your investment or halve your exposure!
The Fund makes investments between £10,000 and £100,000 but its investments must always be at least matched by an investment from the private sector on the same terms (price per share). The Fund's investment cannot be more than that of the private investors, but it may be less.
This provides particular benefits for both the Fund and the private investor(s) and by matching your investment, the Fund gives you the opportunity to get involved with larger deals than you might otherwise expect or it will allow your available capital to be spread over more investments.
The Fund sometimes comes across businesses that it would like to invest in and it can be very frustrating trying to find interested co-investors at short notice. We are therefore interested in hearing from potential co-investors so that we can move quickly. If you would like to know more please send an email to Kevin Caley the funds' Managing Director. Please remember that the Fund is not regulated by the FSA and so cannot provide any "investment advice". You will need to make your own assessment and decision regarding the suitability of any particular investment for your portfolio.
Working with AEGF can provide you with the following particular advantages:
- DEAL FLOW: The fund gets a regular flow of applications from businesses seeking funding but who need a matching private investor. It also usually has a number of existing investments in its portfolio that would benefit from additional funding.
- QUALITY: The Fund will be making its own investment decisions and will not be interested in any business that does not meet its own high standards and provide an opportunity to return substantial profits.
- TIME: finding and making investments can be very time consuming, the Fund can share that burden with you so that we can all have a broader investment portfolio.
- The Fund has a well-developed set of investment documents, designed to protect the interests of all shareholders, and which it brings to an investment without any charge. The Fund will also take an active role in managing the completion process. This should save you time and cost when making an investment.
- If you have the experience to act as a non-executive director or mentor to the company you can do so with minimal interference from the Fund.
- If you are new to investing you can join in syndicates of other private investors to learn from their experience and also limit your financial commitment to just a few thousand pounds within a much larger deal.
- If you do not have sufficient time to monitor all of your own investments, the Fund (and the other private investors) can help to bridge that gap.
- Generally private individuals are seeking to benefit from the tax relief provided by the Enterprise Investment Scheme and the Fund is happy to co-operate in achieving an investment structure that will facilitate this.
Want to know more about business angel investing?
The Fund works closely with several business angels organisations including ABA and CEBA who provide a matching service and can provide detailed information on the methods and a range of investment opportunities they are working on, some of which AEGF will be interested in as well. For free technical information including a range of very useful legal documents and a listing of current business opportunities you could visit FiSMA - a 'not for profit' website facilitating communications between entrepreneurs and investors.
How does the Fund work?
The rules require that in every case the Fund must be at least matched by private sector investors on the same terms. So that if you invest £50,000 for a 10% stake in a company, we could do the same.
This means that the company can raise twice the capital that the private investor might wish to provide, or a private investor can reduce their exposure by sharing an investment with the Fund.
What type of businesses will the Fund invest in?
The Fund is open to applications from almost all industrial sectors except for a few which are generally related to fishing and agriculture. Businesses must be commercially viable and seeking capital to expand. The Fund is not able to invest in order to try and rescue a failing business.
