By October 2009 the Fund had made 111 investments in 61 companies totalling £8.8m. This was matched by £21.5m from 507 private investors, some of whom have invested alongside us as many as 9 times. Here is a list of our current portfolio, Click on their logo to go to their own website:

After conversion, the composite rope is pulled out of the ground with a proprietary tool while a replacement pipe is pulled in place at the same time. The system will save water and gas supply companies a great deal of time and money and avoid the need to dig up roads, drives and gardens. |

Nail Seal Ltd have developed and patented an accessory for industrial nail guns that automatically seals and fills the hole and has several other benefits. The system will operate across a whole network of dealerships and can also be used for boats, aircraft etc. | |

Metrasens Ltd was established to exploit technology licensed from QinetiQ to detect magnetic materials. This has several medical and security applications, principally to detect the presence of ferromagnetic materials in the vicinity of hospital MRI scanners. These machines use very powerful magnets that can accelerate steel items and draw them into the machine with great force potentially hitting the patient at very high speed. There have been several deaths and serious injuries as a result of lack of screening and the MRI scanner is put out of action for several days. Metrasens technology also has applications in detecting concealed weapons and mobile phones in the form of a highly portable metal detector. | |
| SciSite Ltd is a spin-out from Keele University. It has developed an innovative way to non-destructively test reinforced concrete for rust. The SciSite probe is capable of detecting corroded reinforcing bars or tendons in concrete; finding corroded steel under fireproof cladding; examining the inside of sealed storage tanks and examining embedded steel in bridge joints. The result is a faster, more accurate, and lower cost assessment of potential problems without any damage to the structure. |

It is finding particular applications for government bodies seeking to meet their responsibilities under the Freedom of Information Act, Health Trusts managing patient records and international accountants and solicitors needing to quickly find documents and emails on related subjects spread across multiple servers. | |
| Very high frequency Millimetre Wave Modules are integrated circuits that operate at extremely high frequencies (40-200GHz). They are used in security scanners that can see weapons and plastic explosives beneath clothes and have several other important applications. At high frequencies interference between the individual tracks on the chips stop them working. Until now the only solution was to place each chip in a separate metal box and pack it with absorbing material to ‘tune’ it. MMIC Solutions Ltd has licensed a patented technology from QinetiQ which avoids the need for hand tuning and reduces unit size and costs by a factor of about 10. |

The initial target market is likely to be in truck tyres where operators are keenly aware of the savings to be made through efficient tyre monitoring and management but safety legislation already requires the fitting of TPMS systems to 25 million new cars a year in the USA. Through links made through AEGF other important applications of the technology have also been identified which further increases the potential of the business. |
